Music Has Consumed My Life

 ...and I'm not that upset about it. It really has been quite a musical couple of weeks and it's not over yet! Last Tuesday was my school choir's Winter Concert, which I think went very well. On Friday the a Capella group I am a part of sang for the teachers during their lunch and on Saturday we sang for some cool old people (a motor-home club I think?) at an awesome restaurant. Before that on Saturday I had my piano recital.

There was a little boy at the piano recital who did an almost perfect Nightmare Before Christmas version of Jingle Bells. I'm not sure it was on purpose but it made my entire day. It was a complex piece too!

This week, as if that wasn't enough music- I have been going to rehearsals for my friend. She is having a small group of people go sing for a place for developmentally disabled adults where her mom works. That's happening tomorrow!

Then to finish it off on Friday, right before Christmas the a Capella group is going to go caroling. Which should be a lot of fun. We picked my sister up from the airport last night so she is home and I am ready for Christmas. It's the most wonderful time of the year!

Mumford & Sons: December to Remember

Last Tuesday Mumford & Sons came to Portland and guess who got to go! If you guessed obviously you, stupid - you are correct! It was definitely worth getting three hours of sleep the next day and being a slob-zombie the rest of the week.

Mumford & Sons sounds even better live then recorded- I am not kidding you. And the guys are funny! I will marry them, I swear. If you ever get the chance to see them live definitely take it. Check out Apache Relay too, they were one of the openers and actually pretty darn good.

Now nothing crazy happened, I wasn't in the mosh pit (5' tall girls and ground floor seating never turns out well) but I had a really good time. I sat in comfy seats behind some adorable boys (if only they had been a few years older...) and escaped reality for a few hours. 

"The Call"

I know I've been a little internet absent lately- but I have a good reason! This past weekend I was a part of two Veteran's Day Concerts, which premiered the song "The Call" from Grammy-nominated composer Dave Metzger. Seriously so amazing.
The song was commissioned by the Willamette Master Chorus and they asked us to join them in their concerts. Veteran's day is kind of a big deal where I'm from. 
Dave Metzger wrote the score for Kung Fu Panda and the Broadway version of The Lion King. Oh and you know the music that plays with the Walt Disney logo before every Disney movie- he arranged the newest version of that too. He's the closest to famous that I've ever-encountered, and I got to talk to him. The whole thing was a really cool experience.
But that's over now! So hopefully I'll be on here more often before I have to leave for Thanksgiving! I miss all my lovely bloggers!

November Playlist

Today seems like a good day to post my November playlist. At about 6pm I'll be on my way to a giant choral/orchestra rehearsal for a Veteran's Day Song, The Call, composed by Dave Metzger, he's a Grammy winner guys (Lion King on Broadway music...) and he's from Salem, Oregon. I'll have to share more about that experience after it happens, for now enjoy my November music! Christmas music is right around the corner....

Okay... I've already started to listen to it. :)

Halloween with Harry

Yesterday I went with my friend to a "Halloween with Harry" Concert by the Corvallis OSU Symphony. It was fantastic. Before the concert they had the lobby open as Diagon Alley and served Butterbeer, which was delicious, had an owl, wands and other Potter-ish stuff. The actual concert hall was done up as the Great Hall, floating candles and all. It was a nice way to spend the day before Halloween. I'm getting all dressed up to hand out candy today, so check back for pictures of my costume.

Country Music Festival: Days Two & Three

It's time for lots of pictures! SO, if you read my last post: Country Music Festival: Day One, you know I was at a Country Music Festival all weekend. It was hot and there were a lot of people- but it was so much fun! I am very "musically diverse" I guess you could say, I like all different kinds of music. 

My mom and I parked next to the same group of stupid boys again, we couldn't believe it. The chances of that happening were so slim, but it happened. I also got offered a light by a really cute guy...but I don't smoke. I was in-between a couple making out (ew, who wants to make out in the heat, all sweaty and just yuck) and this kid smoking and heard him ask, but didn't know he was talking to me. I wasn't aware I looked like a smoker, but this is the second time something like this happened. I'm not even 18 yet! 

Anywho back to music- all the performances were fantastic and Blake Shelton did an awesome job wrapping up the weekend. This was definitely a highlight of my summer!

Country Music Festival: Day One

It's been a couple days hasn't it? It's been getting super busy as I wrap up my summer here in Oregon. This weekend I am at the, ready for it? Bi-Mart Willamette Country Music Festival. It's three days worth of country music and drunk people. Never in my life have I seen so many RV's and beer-bellies in tank-tops. My mom and I decided to go- but we're not camping. We live close enough that we are just going to drive back and forth. The day one highlight was following a group of drunk boys with one of their friends on the top of the car (who almost fell off multiple times, and was almost pushed off once) in our vehicle and on foot. 


I also experienced the All-American moment. As I was sitting in a field, listening to the National Anthem being sung, surrounded by hicks and hill-billies, the smell of barbecue wafted into the crowd. God bless the USA. Haha.

Outfit: Lonestar at the Fair

That outfit is not reality. Reality is I was advised by my parents to wear pants. SO substitute shorts for cuffed jeans, gladiator sandals and throw on a brown leopard print cardigan and you are back to life, back to reality. I hope I just got that song stuck in someone else's head as well as mine.

I love bracelets-can you tell? 

-Bracelet numero uno is a Zulugrass bead wrap bracelet-necklace-ankle-any thing you want it to be. Best thing about it? Part of the proceeds go to the women in Africa who made them.

-Bracelet twee (decided to go to Dutch) is from my best friend. It was my sixteenth birthday present and she has a matching one.

-Bracelet tres.... I don't know. Uh, they're wood beads on a metal wrap. 

More! Can you believe it? My infamous H&M Bracelets seen in many a outfit post make yet another appearance. I also stole some of my moms bangles from when she was younger. They may or may not be from Indonesia. Oh! And I am making it a goal of mine to wear different earrings more often. I have so many and never wear them, usually because my hair just hides them.

To the title- Lonestar was at my tiny little county fair. They sounded great! It was a nice 70 degree day and after the performance we wandered around the livestock barns and made friends with a sheep and had a Harry Potter moment with a Anaconda in the Exotic Animal thing that's at our fair every year. I swear I was gonna set it free. They actually make me angry. Wild animals shouldn't be harnessed and kept in little chain link cages with nothing, travelling around being yelled at for pawing at you. Heaven forbid the poor little tiger baby wants to play.

I'll stop ranting now and just say I had a lovely time. Which I did. For the most part. Haha. It got me looking forward to the State Fair- The Band Perry is performing there! Anyone else look forward to their State Fair every year? Or county- county fairs are probably much more exciting when you don't live in a tiny town...
